“CJ Groovy Feel” is a minimalistic walking & training sneaker design, for everyday use.

The idea behind this sneaker

The inspiration comes from the Japanese traditional casual kimono, called “yukata” (浴衣).

The main characteristic of Yukata, is that each side is wrapped over the other and secured with an “obi” sash.

For the sneaker, instead of a sash, is used a velcro strap to provide a quick lock, but underneath is used traditional lacing that provides better fit and secure.

The laces are hidden under a semi‐transparent synthetic material that doesn’t avert the ventilation.

First sketches

From the first sketches, I tried to keep a Japanese aesthetic, with a minimal basic design form.

Then, I developed the basic functionality of the lacing cover, so that to help the quick lace & release, but also keep the main design lines simple & clear.

I worked on various angles and foot positions, until every part and detail of the sneaker is clearly defined.
