CJ Laptop Attaché
A solid wood attaché case for the 15″ Apple MacBook Pro.
I was looking for something a little different to carry my laptop around. So I ended up on an organic design, with rounded corners that highlights the wood itself. At the same time, I paid attention to details to enhance the usability.
The chosen woods are oak, teak and Honduran mahogany.
Handle, latch, and hinges
The handle and the latch consists of wood parts — except the brass pin within the latch.
The latch design allows to use it with only one finger. While it’s easy to check if it’s in lock position, even with the same hand that holds the case by the handle.
The lid is held in place by brass hinges that blend well with the wood colours. Making them almost invisible from the outside.
Inner design & protection
On the inside there is a felt lining that protects the laptop from any scratches. The combination of solid wood and inner felt, makes the case durable enough to protect from drops.
In fact I had an accident, dropping the case on concrete steps, and the laptop had no bashes at all! — You can see some of the scratches from this drop, especially at the bottom of the case.
A leather tab allows the quick removal of the laptop. The leather is soft and flexible so that it does not disrupt when the laptop is in use within the case. Neither when typing with the keyboard or while using the trackpad.
The internal dimensions hold the laptop steady when the lid is closed. So that the laptop does not move at all while on the go.
The internal width is a bit wider than the laptop’s dimensions, to allow the air flow in the side vents. By that, it’s possible to use it in place without any overheating issues.
